Holy Friday Night

At this service we sang the Lamentations, verses of meditation on Our Lord's death woven between verses of Psalm 119.
Then we make a procession carring the Epitaphios or Shroud, an icon of the Lord laid in the Tomb, through the Clinton cemetery next to our Church. This reminds us of Our Lord's descent among the dead to gather us mortals and raise us to Life with Him.
When we reenter the Temple we pass under the Shroud as Our Lord's death is the narrow gate through which we pass to Life.
Back in the Temple we hear the prophesy of the raising of the dry bones (Ezekiel 37:1-14).
