PASTOR’S NOTE – Lent begins next Sunday evening. Let each of us begin now to think about how we will order our lives to benefit from this special time. Most important:
Personal Prayer: If you don’t already do so, find some time each day when you will be alone to pray, read the scriptures, and just be quiet.
Church: Unless you live a long way away, come to at least one service a week other than Sunday morning, especially the Great Canon in the first week and on Wednesday, March 28.
Confession: Make at least one during Lent. Prepare for it by recalling all your relationships in life: are there people (living or dead) that you hold bitterness towards? What are you struggling with now? A longer talk with your Confessor during Lent is recommended.
Fasting: Ask your confessor how you should keep the fast appropriate to your circumstances (family, work, health, and spiritual maturity.)
Fasting from unnecessary talking, TV, politics, or other things that distract, excite, or anger us may do more good than fasting from food.
If in any way I have wronged or failed or disappointed you, please forgive me.
In Christ,
Fr. Paul
